Report by Maximo Pollack: On Saturday, despite the British chess championships beginning in just two days, Golders Green was still host to 118 entrants across all three sections. Rob Hammond, Jo Wildman and Adam Raoof ran the event. Here are the results:

Open

In the open, the tournament was heavily contested with several titled players and 51 players in total but, in the end the section was drawn at top by two Grandmasters. GM Alexander Cherniaev and GM Eldar Gasanov who won £75 each. The rating prize of £50 was awarded to Emily Maton with 3.5/6.

Under 1800

The Under 1800 was another close call for first place coming down to a game against Supratit Banerjee and Julian Llewellyn. In the end, the game was drawn which led Supratit to come out on top in the section, with 5.5/6, winning £100 and Julian in a close second, with 5/6, winning £50. The Rating Category Prize was awarded to Alexander Wagner (who kindly donated his prize to Chess in Schools and Communities) and Junyi Zhang winning £25 each.

Under 1450

Finishing outright first in the Under 1450 was Aditya Asnani finishing above 21 others. In just his second rapid tournament of 2022, Aditya finished on 5.5/6 almost ending the tournament with a clean sweep before drawing a close game as black with James Dane on the sixth round. James, a frequent player of Golders green, was awarded with the rating prize of £30. However, he finished on the same number of points as the other three third places Peter Hazell, Leo Rubiales Kowalski, Cristian Delendrea who won £10.00 each.
